Getting to know Martinique

If you had asked about 100 people where is Martinique or have you heard of the island, I guarantee more than half of them would say no. Well if your one of those people then it’s okay because, Martinique is not a well known island and it’s not the biggest either. However it’s an Overseas departmentregion and single territorial collectivity of France. It’s also an integral part, of the French Republic, so they speak French. At various times Martinique was attacked by the Dutch, British, and the France. The reason the other countries didn’t colonize Martinique is because of the treaty of Paris 1763. On the other hand in present day this beautiful island is having lots of problems with chlordecone pollution, an pesticide that was used on banana farms in the Basse-Terre area of Guadeloupe which lies 105 miles north of Fort-de-France. These type of situations are really harming the people in Martinique, people already have to deal with corona, I believe that this is going to lead to people start protesting the government. I truly want these situations to get better for Martinique, not just this island but their are other small islands that are having the same issues. I believe that this island is unique and an urgent island to blog about because more people should know the major issues that are happening but I will be that person to inform those who want to learn more about their history through this semester.
